Preparing for A new baby is a really exciting time. You want everything to be in its place and perfect for their arrival. As exciting as it is for an expecting mom, I found it to also be really stressful.
I had a challenging pregnancy. Nonstop nausea, exhaustion, and anxiousness made doing day-to-day household tasks difficult. When it came time to kick into nesting mode, I had no idea how I was going to get it all done. This was the first time in my life that I felt like my will couldn’t outweigh my limits. I needed help. I was often told to ‘let me know if you need anything’ throughout my pregnancy, and now I actually did. I decided I would take a few friends and family members up on their offers.
I threw a nesting party IN ADDITION to our baby shower, not in place of it. I kept it small with only four people total: My mom, two friends, and my husband. I would’ve enlisted more people in the day but I don’t live near my closest family and friends. There is no limit on how many folks you can include, just remember it can get a little chaotic if you have 10+ people working around your home at the same time.

Assess Your Needs
The whole point of having a nesting party is to get help preparing your home to have a baby. Although most mothers-to-be have similar nesting needs (postpartum essentials, diaper caddy, baby laundry), the perfect time to think out of the box on things you’d like to complete before the baby arrives is with more hands on deck. Take a look at the areas of your home and think about what will really help take a load off of you.
Nesting Ideas for Your Party
- Set up the Pack N’ Play
- Postpartum Baskets for Bathroom
- Sterilizing and organizing bottles
- Sorting and Washing baby clothes
- Making Freezer Meals
- House Cleaning
- Putting together snack baskets (for breastfeeding)
- Opening boxes and moving things around
- Organizing the pantry
Write it Out
A chart or list will be essential to keep yourself and others organized. Include all the tasks that need to be done and assignments for the guests. Once a task is finished, check that off your list.
Gather Supplies
Managing the time your friends and family are committing to you is essential! You don’t want to waste it by having people search for items around your house to complete the tasks. Think about the things you need and make sure you have them all ready to go. All the necessary cleaning supplies, ingredients, and organizing items should be easily accessible to guests.
Prep Items you may need
- Bottle soap and baby detergent
- Groceries
- Freezer bags
- Drawer organizers and baby hangers
- Baskets and containers
Provide Refreshments
Keep in mind that your friends and family are doing you a favor so you should provide something to nibble on. This is something I suggest outsourcing. Since the whole point of this is to take tasks off mom’s plate, place a pick-up order for some wings, sandwiches, or something easy and pre-made at the grocery store.
For a good amount of progress, I recommend at least 3 to 4 hours for the party. That includes a good amount of time to wash and fold laundry and knock out multiple tasks. This party probably won’t cover ALL of your nesting needs, but taking hours of labor off of mommy-to-be is invaluable and appreciated.
I hope this helps any nesting mamas out there!
