I’m a few months postpartum and finally feel like I know what I’m doing. Welcoming a new baby is really overwhelming. The fact that there are a million and one baby products can leave you scatter brained. You definitely have to cover the basics: a safe place to sleep and a way to feed them. That’s the minimum. Once you choose a bassinet or crib, and formula or breastfeeding, everything else is to help make mom and dad’s experience a little easier.

These are the things that I found really help you care for a new baby.
- Nose Frida – This an absolute must! Babies get congested and they need their airways clear. The little device is an absolute life saver and a must-have for baby!
- Saline Mist – This, in conjunction with the Nose Frida, is the ultimate combo. This one in particluar has worked really well for us and is gentle enough for use with a newborn.
- Nail File – You’d be surprised how sharp baby nails can be! You want to prevent baby from scratching themselves and from scratching mommy. This file proved very gentle on baby’s hand and helps keep the claws under control.
- Cleansing Water – This is a great product that helped a lot with baby acne. I used this daily with cotton rounds and my child’s acne cleared up in less than two weeks!
- Diaper Rash Cream Applicator – Diaper changes are gross enough. Using this applicator helped us keep our hands clean.
- Burp Cloths – Buy a lot of these! Babies spit up A LOT. Having a lot off clean cloths ready to go help ensure you always have one on hand.
- Baby Oral Cleaner – Did you know babies still need oral care?! Even tho they don’t have teeth yet, your babies tongue should be lightly brushed after they eat. These are individually wrapped and easy to use!
- Velcro Swaddles – I wasn’t blessed with swaddling skills so we used these every night. Our child didn’t like swaddles at first, but eventually, they became essential for longer naps and nighttime sleep.
- Sterilizer – I thought this was an unnecessary purchase originally. But after realizing how often I needed to sterilize my pump, bottles, and pacifiers, I went out and bought one.
- Zippered Onesies – Last but not least. Zippered onesies help soooo much. Unzipping from the bottom for diaper changes or unzipping the top half to take it off over the head after a blowout. These onesies from Kyte Baby are EXPENSIVE but…they are extremely soft, cooling and stretch really well over time. I bought three and my son can still fit in them almost three months later. Just be prepared to wash often so you can have them ready to rotate!
Hope this list helps with making mom and dad’s lives easier!
